We have been contributing to Indian civilian nuclear power programme over past four decades and have established relationships with leading Indian Organisations such as NPCIL. We manufacture and supply highly complex products to the core of the nuclear reactor. Our product portfolio in Nuclear includes complex assemblies such as fuel machining head, drive mechanisms, bridge and column and coolant channel assemblies, among others. These products are supplied not just for the new pressurized heavy-water reactors (PHWR), but also for refurbishment of the existing reactors. The experience in manufacturing these products of high positional and dimensional accuracy has not only been acquired by us over a period of time, but also has enabled to set high standards in the market in terms of quality

Civilian Nuclear Power

Fuel Machining Head

We have supplied Fuel Machining Head for 220 MW and 700 MW Civilian Nuclear Reactor.

Application: Used for loading and unloading of fuel bundles in the core of the nuclear reactor.

Criticality: Involves manufacture and assembly of over 600 components.

Bridge and Column

We have supplied Bridge & Column of Bridge Width – 12 m and Column Height – 15 m to the core of the civilian nuclear reactor.

Application: Moves fuel machining head in sideways and vertical directions to allow loading and unloading of the various nuclear fuel bundles in the nuclear reactor.

Criticality: Perpendicularity to be 1 mm in the two column structures.

Calandria Vault Top Hatch Cover Beams and Deck Plate Assembly.

Application

The Calandria Vault (CV) top hatch cover beam (as shown in the photograph), forms the roof of the CV. The structure is stiffened with heavy density concrete. The nuclear radiations, mainly gamma radiations, emerging out of water in CV above the Calandria are reduced by these beams and Deck Plates. The top hatch beams are also required to support the reactor shutdown and control systems.

Criticality

  1. Requires High dimensional and positional accuracies.
  2. The top faces of the I-beams and the sleeves for various control rods are machined so as to be in one plane.
  3. Controlled welding and machining is key to achieve accuracies. Positional accuracy and concentricity of the sleeves is critical to ensure smooth movement of control rods and absorber rods.

Coolant Channel Assemblies

MTAR manufactures critical coolant channel assemblies that comprises of Sealing Plug, Shielding Plug, Liner Tubes and End Fittings for the core of civilian nuclear reactor that involves assembly of large number of components.

Drive Mechanisms

Adjustor Rod Mechanism

Criticality: The drive mechanisms are critical and even a slight deviation in the end product is not acceptable as they are used for regulating purpose and shutdown of nuclear reactors under normal and undesirable operating conditions

Shut-Off Rod Drive Mechanism

Criticality: The drive mechanisms are critical and even a slight deviation in the end product is not acceptable as they are used for regulating purpose and shutdown of nuclear reactors under normal and undesirable operating conditions

Criticality: The drive mechanisms are critical and even a slight deviation in the end product is not acceptable as they are used for regulating purpose and shutdown of nuclear reactors under normal and undesirable operating conditions

Channel Health Assessment System (CHAS)

MTAR is working with BARC to develop Channel Health Assessment System (CHAS). Detailed Design/Engineering, manufacturing and assembly is in process at MTAR. CHAS is one of the few products where the detailed design is also developed by MTAR apart from manufacturing and assembly.

Few Features of CHAS :

  1. Fully Automated
  2. No human intervention required in FM Vault
